It has been several weeks now that the Disney + streaming platform is available in France. I’ve been waiting for months to try it, and finally it’s here ! It truly is everything I was hoping for. Here’s a little review of the 5 shows I began with.
Star Wars — The Mandalorian
As a big Star Wars fan, I was super excited when I found out there was going to be an Original Disney + live-series about this amazing universe. If you’re hesitating about getting the platform, and if I could give you a single reason to get it, it would be to watch this show. I don’t want to get much into details because I don’t want to spoil anything for people who haven’t watched it yet, but here are some of the reasons The Mandalorian became one of my favorite shows.
First of all, one thing that I love about this show, and that can apply to a lot of other programs Disney + has to offer, is that it’s a show that I watch with my family. On Friday nights, every time a new episode comes out, we gather in the living-room, and watch the show together. I love that we all share a passion for this show. Though I am very close to my family, we haven’t watched a show altogether in a long time, and it feels really good to be able to do it again.
The first season has 8 chapters (episodes) of about 45 min. I really like this kind of format because it gets straight to the point. Every episode matters. At the end of each episode, I cannot wait to see what’s going to happen next, because the story and the characters are fascinating. I think the cast is outstanding, and I'm particularly amazed by the performance of Pedro Pascal, who plays the main character, "Mando". His character wears a suit and a helmet, so you can’t see any facial expression. Everything is done through body language and voice tone, which is really impressive.
I mentioned it in my April’s favorites article, the original score is a wonder. It’s composed by Ludwig Göransson, who I personally discovered with the score of Marvel’s Black Panther. I think the score perfectly fits the atmosphere of the show, and I literally spend my days listening to it while working.
I can’t wait to see what this amazing show will have in store for us in the future. One thing is for sure, the Force is very strong with The Mandalorian.
High School Musical: the series
Wildcats, are you there ? 📣
If like me, you were a fan of the High School Musical films as teenagers, then you’ll not be disappointed with HSM: the series. I know I’m not a teenager anymore, but that doesn’t keep me from liking this show. I enjoy hearing the old tunes of the movies, as well as the brand new original songs they added. One of the song is actually in my top 10 songs of April. If you love shows about musical productions, singing, high school, a little bit of teenage drama, and being on stage, then of course you’ll love HSM the series. I love watching an episode whenever I take a break, it makes me wants to sing and I'm always in a good mood afterwards.
Disney’s Fairytales Weddings
I adore shows about weddings ! It’s just so moving and lovely, and it gives me a reason not to give up on romance, haha. Not to mention, as the title suggests, all of the weddings happen in Disney places. It adds a whole lot of magic to something that is already beautiful. Every couple and families that are on the show are very touching and they each have a very emotional journey. I’m not going to lie, I cry for every single wedding or proposal, I just can’t hold my tears.
But I think it’s the most wonderful thing to watch how much two people love each other. Also, I really love that Disney is a passion the couple has in common. Of course, I can absolutely relate to the way they feel about this incredible universe. I will always be a massive Disney fan, it’s part of who I am, and it’s really cool to watch people that have the same love for it.
Imagineers is one of the reason I had to get Disney +. It’s a documentary about the genius technical engineers and designers, named by Walt Disney “Imagineers”, who gave all their magic to the Disney Parcs all around the world.
I’ve always had a passion for knowing how movies, sets, or props were made. As a teenager, I remember I would always watch movies making-of (Disney movies ones in particular). Watching this documentary, I was fascinated to learn about how the incredible Disney Parcs were made. What struck me the most is the astounding evolution and progresses that were made since the opening of the first park in 1955. It was captivating to learn about this amazing team of men and women who had the unbelievable task to keep alive the vision and legacy of Walt Disney.
Disneyland Paris has always been a special place for me. It opened in 1992, the same year I was born. And I don’t know, maybe this is why I have such strong emotions about the Disney universe. I’ll never cease to cherish this place, and I can’t wait to be able to travel and spend time in other magical Disney places.
Encore ! is a show about high school musical productions being restaged years later. It’s very moving because you see people who knew each other in high school being reunited to perform on stage together once again, when most of them have lost contact with each other.
I had the incredible opportunity, once I graduated in France, to spend a year as a foreign exchange student in the US. It was my ultimate dream, and I wanted to do everything that an American high school student gets to do, especially being part of a musical. And I did! I had a role in the Bye Bye Birdie Musical Lebanon MO production of 2011. Today, it’s still one of the greatest memories I have. Watching this show reminds me of one of the most amazing year I had in my life.
Alright, that is it for now ! I wish you all a wonderful day, stay tuned for the next reviews, and don't forget...
